Kuta, Bali – August 14th, 2025 In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Anathera Resort Kuta launched a community-based environmental initiative focused on mangrove restoration and coastal cleanup. The project reflects the resort’s long-term commitment to sustainability and its responsibility to help preserve Bali’s natural heritage.
Environmental Responsibility in Action
The initiative involved planting mangrove seedlings and removing accumulated waste from coastal areas impacted by tidal activity and upstream water management. The activity was led by the resort’s management team and supported by staff volunteers.

“Mangroves are essential for coastal resilience. They protect shorelines, support marine biodiversity, and act as natural carbon sinks. This initiative is one step in our broader commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Amelia, Marketing Communication Executive of Anathera Resort Kuta.
Responding to Local Environmental Challenges

The selected location is a critical mangrove area affected by recurring plastic waste buildup mainly caused by weekly dam releases upstream. These conditions threaten the growth and health of the mangrove ecosystem, which plays a vital role in preventing erosion and protecting coastal communities.
Through this initiative, the resort aims not only to rehabilitate the area but also to raise awareness of the environmental impact of unmanaged waste and the importance of long-term ecological balance. Amelia, a representative of the resort, explained that Anathera Resort Kuta has 320 rooms and has already taken steps to reduce plastic waste. “We provide a water jug in every room to cut down on plastic bottles. As we know, hospitality can generate a lot of waste, and we need to control that. Our guests don’t need to worry clean drinking water is always available.”
Aligned with Balinese Values
This CSR effort aligns with Tri Hita Karana, a core philosophy in Balinese culture that emphasizes harmony between people (Pawongan), nature (Palemahan), and the spiritual realm (Parahyangan). Anathera Resort Kuta embraces this principle not just through one-time initiatives, but as a foundation for its daily operations and long-term vision.
The resort integrates Tri Hita Karana by reducing single-use plastics, such as providing water jugs in every room, and encouraging eco-friendly practices across all departments. From waste management to energy efficiency and local community partnerships, every aspect of the resort’s operations reflects a balance between human well-being, environmental care, and spiritual respect.
A Call for Collective Awareness on Sustainability
Engelin Angsar, General Manager of Anathera Resort Kuta, emphasized that sustainability must be a shared responsibility not only within the hospitality industry but also among local communities and guests.
“We believe sustainability is not just a trend it’s a necessity,” said Engelin. “Everyone has a role to play. From hotel operators and staff to the communities we serve and the guests who stay with us, the future of tourism depends on how we treat the environment today. Small actions, like reducing plastic use or supporting conservation, can create a big impact when done together.”

She also noted that Anathera Resort Kuta is committed to leading by example, integrating sustainable practices into daily operations and encouraging awareness among guests and partners.
Looking Ahead
This mangrove initiative is part of a wider series of sustainability programs at Anathera Resort Kuta. Management shared that the 10th anniversary is not only a time to celebrate the past but also a renewed commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.
